About This Work
Climbing My Dreams is a joyful and defiant celebration of the human spirit's capacity to rise — literally and figuratively. Children climb the giant stems of sunflowers as if scaling mountains, their small bodies vibrant with color against the deep, lush green of the garden. The scale inverts the natural order: the children are tiny, the sunflowers immense, and yet the children are winning.
This is a painting about ambition, childhood, and the courage to reach for what seems impossibly high. Each child is distinct — different in clothing, posture, and expression — united only by the shared act of climbing. The sunflowers, with their characteristic eye-like centers, observe silently, as nature always does when humans push their limits.
For Yosan, this work carries deep personal meaning — the dream of a life built in a new country, and the children who were left behind temporarily while their parents climbed their own impossible stems. It is a painting of hope painted from experience, radiating the kind of optimism that only comes from someone who has known the alternative.
